“The Wide Road” excerpt
It was Joel’s moral conscience that became offended at the illusion which revealed the true state of his soul by the reflection of light. “This simply is not true.” Joel’s moral conscience stormed. “I am by nature… a good soul, created in the image of God, possessing god like qualities and moral ability. I will not receive this image of myself for I am capable of moral goodness. After all have I not obeyed most of the law and cared about my fellow human beings? I performed some charitable acts and have abhorrence for injustice, don’t I? Does that not make me a moral soul? ”
Like a leopard trying to change his spots, the traveler of the wide road’s moral conscience turned away from his reflection in the house of mirrors and made his way once again towards the games in the illusions of this life.
