Mind in the Greek is “nous” and this means the faculties of perceiving and understanding and those of feeling, judging, determining, the capacity for spiritual truth, the higher powers of the soul, and the faculty of perceiving divine things, of recognizing goodness and of hating evil,
the power of considering and judging soberly, calmly and impartially. (Strong’s concordance)
Our carnal mind needs to be reprogrammed from the old way of thinking and renewed or made new by thinking the way God wants us to think. This is done by the scriptures through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Rom. 12:2 – “be transformed by the renewing of your mind”
Eph. 4:23 – “be renewed in the spirit of your mind” (Read all the chapter)
Col. 3:10 – “the new man is being renewed to a true knowledge of him who created him.” (Read all the chapter)
Matt. 22:37 – “Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind and strength”
The mind of Christ will have the following attributes.
Lowly, humble, submissive, not proud, haughty or boastful. (Not even about how great a Christian one is or who they are in Christ. The bible says to boast in the Lord only.)
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name.
Being of no reputation means not bragging and boasting about who you are or what you have done. (Even in the ministry) In heaven only Jesus is glorified and boasted about so it should be no different while we are on this earth.
Col. 3:2 – “set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth……..” (Read all the chapter)
The mind of Christ is forgiving, obedient, serving God and not people pleasing, speaking the truth, honest in communication, truthful, merciful, kind, meek, patient, at peace, thankful, filled with grace and worship, single hearted.
The mind of Christ thinks on Phil. 4 (Read all the chapter) what is honest, pure, what is right, what is encouraging. The mind of Christ is prayerful, always rejoicing, content in all circumstances and trusting in God.
When we have on salvation (Jesus) as our head we are under his authority and represent him. The more we pray and ask God to transform our minds by his word the more he will do just that until we are thinking and acting like him!
Salvation is the helmet that protects the head against the blows of the enemy’s attacks on the mind. It protects against error and false doctrines and all the crafty arguments of the devil.
If you put God’s word in our heart by memorizing scriptures, (1 Peter 1:13 , “gird up the loins of your mind.”) you will have a sober and sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7, the Word of God says, “For God hath not give us a spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
And again in 1 Thessalonians 5:8
“But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on the hope of salvation as a helmet. “
Titus 1:15 says that the unsaved have carnal minds, filled with fear, dread ,and worldliness. , “… unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.”
Covered in the blood of Jesus and by reading God’s word, studying God’s word and memorizing God’s word you will be fully equipped to cast down every high minded thoughts and ideologies that exalt themselves about the word of God and to stand in the evil day. (Enemy attacks)
I pray that with the helmet of salvation on your head ……..”That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.” Ephesians 1:17-23
