Scriptures tell us that salvation is a gift but did you know that faith is also a divine gift? As a gift then salvation by faith is a gift. Not earned but divinely given through mercy which is also a gift obtained by God’s elect.
Faith is not the function of one’s own mind or an activity of the will. Rather faith is obtained as a divine gift bestowed by God according to his will and is measured out according to his will. There is nothing that you can do to increase your faith but by asking God for an increase. Faith is no more earned than salvation is. No matter how much you confess the word or read your bible, unless the Lord gives you divine revelation and an increase of faith, you will go no further than the faith you have obtained by God’s sovereign will. You can however, ask for an increase in faith but again that is still up to God’s divine will, not ours.
Let me show you this truth through scriptures.
According to the Bible, faith is OBTAINED.
“SIMON PETER, A SERVANT AND AN APOSTLE OF JESUS CHRIST, TO THEM THAT HAVE OBTAINED LIKE PRECIOUS FAITH WITH US THROUGH THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD AND OUR SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.” 2 PETER 1:1
Salvation is obtained through faith.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” (Eph 2:8)
Jesus obtained salvation for us.
“Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” Hebrews 9:12
What does obtained mean? According to the English language it means:
Obtained – get, acquire, or secure (something).
According to the Greek language it means:
to receive by divine allotment
So as you can see, to obtain salvation and faith is to receive it through divine allotment, not by human ability.
“For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.” Acts 1:17
“Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come.” Acts 26:22
“What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. “ Romans 11:7
“For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:”Romans 11:20
“Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord: yet I give my judgment, as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.” 1Corinthians 7:25
“Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” 1 Peter 2:10
Faith is given to all God’s elect. “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism.” Ephesians 4:4-5
This faith, however, is bestowed upon God’s elect according to the measure allotted to the elect by God’s mercy and grace.
“For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.” Romans 12:3
“Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,” Hebrews 11:33
The faith we each receive is allotted to the elect according as God sees fit and we use this faith to stand against the powers of darkness. Remember that Jesus said that “to him who has (exercises and uses responsibly) shall more be given.” Be faithful and God may give you greater things to do and add more measure of faith to you to fulfill your divine call.
“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” (Eph 6:16)
“ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:” Ephesians 1:11
