Free Will is a Fallacy

Free will is a Fallacy

First of all before I begin my argument let us define what “free will ” is exactly.

According to the online dictionary “free will” is,

The power of making free choices that are unconstrained by external circumstances or by an agency such as fate or divine will.”

In other words people are free to choose whatsoever they desire without any interference at all, from God or outside influence. Aristotle was the first to come up with the free will argument, (as it is not a biblical idea), based on the idea of chance,(This is where the evolutionists get their argument from), which is described as a causal chain based on first cause with four possible causes; material, efficient, formal and final.

Libertarian free will is what many today ascribe to and again this is not a biblical idea but purely a humanist philosophy which says that humans are free from all kinds of determinism.(including divine will) Libertarians believe that strict determinism limits freedom of the individual. Religious libertarians ascribe free will to all mankind but God knows everything by foreknowledge that man will do. This idea is an attempt to reconcile humanism with Christianity but when held up to examination of scripture in its complete context does not stand up.

The argument for free will in Christianity is based on this premise, “If you will.”

Redemption is only possible IF YOU WILL, it is conditional. Historically this position has been known as “Arminianism” and “semi-Pelagianism” because these were the men who originally caused division in the church by introducing the doctrine of free will. According to this religion God is only able to desire sinners to be saved but in actuality he has no power outside of man’s will to save.

The problem of this doctrine is that it is based on works, a doctrine of the Roman church and not the Reformation. The fallacy for this argument is based on the question, “Why are not all men saved if God loves all the world and desires all to be saved?”

Since God loves all the same and has sent Jesus to died for all the world then according to the free will argument Christ died for all men but he in actuality did not die to save all men, only some, those who exercised their free will. This means that the Holy Sprit is unable to exert his power over the free will of man through conviction or God’s word which has really no power to bring faith to the heart.

However, according to the bible the gospel is not dependent on men’s will but upon free grace which makes provision by the power of the holy Spirit for men who are helpless sinners to be saved because not only does he provide the desire for salvation but grants faith and repentance to be saved.(refer to my other blogs)

The question concerning the free will/ sovereign will of God argument comes down to, who exactly effects redemption? God or man? According to the bible the sinner is unable to obey God for he is not in any way subject to God’s will.

Let us take a look at what the bible says concerning man’s ability to exert free will in determining his salvation. If you look at all versions of this scripture it comes out the same, ” man’s mind is in enmity, hostile to God and cannot, is unable to, and will not, obey God because he cannot. Why can man not choose God? Simply because  man is bound by the sinful nature which is in enmity by that nature to God and all that consists of God.

New International Version(©1984)
the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.

New Living Translation(©2007)
For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.

For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.

New American Standard Bible(©1995)
because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,

King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.)
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

International Standard Version(©2008)
That is why the mind that focuses on human nature is hostile toward God. It refuses to submit to the authority of God’s law because it is powerless to do so.

Aramaic Bible in Plain English (©2010)
Because the mind of the flesh is hatred toward God, for it is not subject to the law of God because it cannot be.

GOD’S WORD® Translation(©1995)
This is so because the corrupt nature has a hostile attitude toward God. It refuses to place itself under the authority of God’s standards because it can’t.

King James 2000 Bible (©2003)
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

American King James Version
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

American Standard Version
because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:

Douay-Rheims Bible
Because the wisdom of the flesh is an enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither can it be.

Darby Bible Translation
Because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God; for neither indeed can it be:

English Revised Version
because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:

Webster’s Bible Translation
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Weymouth New Testament
Abandonment to earthly things is a state of enmity to God. Such a mind does not submit to God’s Law, and indeed cannot do so.

World English Bible
because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God; for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be.

Young’s Literal Translation
because the mind of the flesh is enmity to God, for to the law of God it doth not subject itself,

So if man’s very nature cannot obey God where then is his free will in determining his salvation? According to the bible man is blinded by the devil, lost and bound in sin, unable to save himself and in need of redemption. If man could choose God of his own will then he could also choose to obey the law which scriptures afirm he cannot because there are none that are good due to the sin nature. If man could choose God then he could also keep the law and Jesus Christ would have had no reason to come. To say that man must exert his will to accept salvation is adding man’s works, his ability and his ego to the cross and this nullifies grace.

In conclusion, free will is a fallacy because according to scripture (rather than humanism) man is unable through his very nature to choose to obey God. Salvation is based on the sovereignty of God that causes men to believe and trust in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

My ministry gifts are Prophetic Evangelism and Teaching (apologetics and end times revelation in particular). My motivational gifts are Intercession, prophecy, administration. I am a bond servant of Jesus Christ and am called by him to preach the gospel of grace through faith in Jesus Christ apart from the deeds of the law. My Statement of Faith I believe that Jesus is God's son and is himself God, the third person of the Godhead, (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) I believe the bible says YOU MUST be born again by the Holy Spirit to enter into the kingdom of God. I believe Jesus died for the sins of all that have been called out of darkness into his glorious light. Heaven is for the redeemed and hell is for reprobates. The death of Jesus Christ is the substitutionary atonement. “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” Jesus sent the holy Spirit to comfort, teach, build up, edify, consecrate, and seal God’s people until his return. Jesus will return to the earth to rule and reign for 1000 years on the earth. I believe we are in the end times and anti christ will soon be revealed. I also believe that we are living in the last days of the great apostasy and falling away from the truth of God's word but God has a remnant,( his elect, chosen before the foundation of the world,) that have not bowed the knee to Baal. These sheep will soon face great persecution that God will allow to take place before the return of Christ. This persecution which will be worldwide will be what separates the true Christian from the false apostate. Those who love not their lives to the end will be shown to be the true church of Jesus Christ but the compromisers of the integrity of God’s word, who choose the spirit of error, worldly doctrines of men, the works of the flesh and the works of the law will be shown to be apostates like Judas and will die in their sins. No one can come to Jesus unless the Father gives him the ability to do so. No one will seek after Jesus unless he is drawn by the Father according to scripture but all whom God calls by his Holy Spirit will come to Jesus and be saved from their sins and be given eternal life for he who has promised is faithful to perfom his promise. The Lord is calling his church to come out of Babylon : Come out of false new age teaching, Come out of legalistic adherance to OT laws to save you, Come out of false signs and wonders that have no scriptural basis, Come out of witchcraft and the doctrines of demons, Come out of humanism and the promotion of man by self help principles and RETURN TO THE PURE UNADULTERATED WORD OF GOD ! “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. Revelation 18:4 Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 1. If man has no free will to choose or reject Christ’s sacrifice for his salvation, and God would have that no man perish, then how is it that so many reject Christ and perish? That means that God would choose to save some but not others. That would mean that God is a respecter of persons

    1. Why do men question God and refuse to adhere to his word, choosing rather to listen to the doctrines of men today? Scriptures clearly teach that “Salvation is of the Lord”. I sent links to give you further understanding. Always look at both sides of an argument because one will never know the real unless he has been exposed to the fake. Compare doctrines.

God wants all men to be saved as in ALL KINDS OF MEN such as gentiles as well as the Jews. We must also read a text according to the audience being spoken to as well as the historical context. Trying to make something mean modern terms for an historical document makes error. Also it doesnt hurt to know the Greek and Hebrew words so one is not decieved about word meanings. Many false prophets are out in the world. The gospel of grace was preached by all the reformers including Martin Luther.Today the gospel has been altered. Even the new bible versions are heresy. Look into it!
