We have to have faith in God’s grace to be saved, but saving faith is not our own human faith, for the bible says that NOT ALL MEN HAVE FAITH, but it is the faith given by God as a gift to those whom the Lord chooses to reveal his word to.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves it is the GIFT of God …..”
This is a supernatural faith of God that only comes to those who receive the good news of the gospel. (That is the true gospel) When one becomes born again they are each given a measure of God’s faith,(the spirit of faith, sola scriptura) but Jesus had the Spirit without measure and so he was able to do many works that far surpase the average Christian.
“So then faith cometh by hearing (recieving the gospel message) and hearing by the word of God.(this is translated rhema, revealed word of Christ,not logos written word)
We recieve God’s faith through the revelation of his word. When we hear the word of God the Holy Spirit empowers his word and if we receive the truth by his grace then God’s supernatural faith enters our hearts.
2 Peter 1:1
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that HAVE OBTAINED LIKE PRECIOUS FAITH with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ
We are not able of our own to recieve the word of God. We cannot have faith to believe without the power of the holy Spirit to enable us to believe. God must reveal his truth to us through his word. He does this through the foolishness of preaching….his word….not the doctrines of men!
We live our lives as Spirit filled Christians by THE FAITH OF GOD not our faith. Your faith will not save you…..you may have an intellectual faith or belief in the gospel but you need saving faith to be saved from your sin nature. Many people followed Jesus who believed in him but they were fair weather friends…like Judas…he saw the miracles performed…partook of the experiences of the holy Spirit…tasted the powers of the kingdom….heard the truth being preached…BUT the word was NOT MIXED WITH FAITH and so there was no profit for him.
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me
Paul did not say that he lived by faith IN the Son of God but by THE FAITH OF the Son of God. The faith that Paul had was the same faith that Jesus had. It was Gods faith.
So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
The faith of God comes by hearing (the message of the gospel being preached)and hearing (revealed understanding)by the word of God.(this is translated rhema or living word not logos, written, so therefore faith comes by divine revelation of the logos)
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith
So you see brethren that faith is a divine gift from God and cannot be achieved by human effort.
Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
Jesus answered them, Have not I CHOSEN you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, BUT MY FATHER which is in heaven.
In conclusion…God has chosen the foolishness of Preaching (his word) to save them that have by divine revelation by the holy Spirit, recieved the GIFT OF FAITH to believe with the heart (not the head) the gospel message.
I Corinthians 1:18-24
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe
For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
But unto them WHICH ARE CALLED, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
But God HATH CHOSEN the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath CHOSEN the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God CHOSEN, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things things that are:
THAT NO FLESH SHOULD GLORY IN HIS PRESENCE.
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption
That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, LET HIM GLORY IN THE LORD.
